Mother’s Day is only a few days away. Pay her a tribute in a meaningful way…

Have you thought about how you are honoring your mom this coming Mother’s day? Here’s a meaningful gift idea.

Pay her a tribute by educating preschool children in her honor.
Use the, “Gift or in honor of,” option under the orange donate button on OBAT’s project page at Global Giving: http://goto.gg/10155. GlobalGiving will send the gift recipient an email, snail mail, or print-at-home card. And that’s not where it ends!

From now until May 12th, GlobalGiving is matching every donation made as a gift. So don’t wait to honor your mom and double the good!

Celebrating our clean water projects on world water day.

OBAT has six drinking water projects in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rangpur and Syedpur. Each of these provides clean water for about 2,200-2,500 people. The camps are faced with a serious scarcity of clean drinking water. The City Water Supply Authority usually supplies water during late night when everyone is asleep, making collection of water impossible.  Adding to the problem is a dearth of electricity and the ensuing load shedding or prolonged power outages. The supply of water depends on the supply of electricity. Hence, load shedding presents a great problem, preventing people from collecting water when it is needed, for drinking or household chores.

In addition, the water supplied by the authorities is contaminated and not potable. Drinking dirty water leads to several water borne disease, for e.g. cholera, dysentery, diarrhea, typhoid and hepatitis etc.

As a result of these projects, the incidence of disease has been reduced and access to clean water is now a reality for the camp people.

On Intl Women’s Day, our tribute to the unrelenting spirit of the women in the camps.

To all the women, young and old, fighting against all odds in the camps, we say thank you. Thank you, for your strength, for not faltering, for overcoming  hurdles and for showing others that life can be rebuild even if it was once reduced to a wreckage. Thank you for being a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a caregiver and a provider. Thank you for not giving up hope.

Make these sweet souls your valentines today

Light up the lives of the little children at OBAT’s preschools by helping them go to school.

Over 95% of 300,000 forgotten people are illiterate and only about 10% of their kids are in elementary schools. By ensuring their admission into elementary schools, the preschools enable them to get that education and open the door for a better and brighter future. In the preschool, they are provided all essential supplies, text and note books. They acquire basic literacy skills which enable them to clear the test for admission into an elementary school.
